Good morning everybody! It’s Zoé again and today it will be all about green because I’ll speak about the Dorrigo Rainforest at Dorrigo National Park, a truly unique experience on our East Coast Australia tour packages.
During your tour with Via Travel Australia, you will have the opportunity to have a walk with your guide in the rainforest. This is the moment to discover a quiet, peaceful and wet place! You’ll enjoy the uniqueness of Dorrigo National Park on 3 of our East Coast Australia tour packages: Sydney to Cairns Best of Australia – 17 Day Boutique Tour, Sydney to Cairns – 14 Day Tour, and on our Sydney to Brisbane – 8 Day Tour.
Dorrigo National Park
Firstly, let’s talk about the silence that reigns in this forest. Apart from the sound of your footsteps and the sounds of birds, you won’t hear anything else. It’s crazy how quiet this place is. From the bird sounds, you will be able to hear the « Whip Bird » sound, which is one of my favorite! No, really, I’ve never heard a sound like it before, it’s a real experience.
Follow this link if you want to get more info. “The call of the Eastern Whipbird (Psophodes olivaceus) is one of the most iconic sounds of the forests of eastern Australia. Although the birds themselves often remain hidden in the undergrowth, their sharp, whipcrack-like calls are loud and distinctive. Calls often are a ‘duet’ between two birds, likely a male/female response (although I’m not sure if it’s ever actually been proven which sex makes which part of the call as both male and female look identical!). In any case, one bird makes the initial whistle and whipcrack, followed by a response of 1-4 notes by the second bird.”
You will also hear, the sound of the wind in leaves, animal footsteps, and other unidentified sounds that will take you to a calm and peaceful place. I advise you to stop for 5 or 10 minutes, sit down and just take in all of the smells, sounds and ambience. Maybe even close your eyes and take it all in. It’s not often that we get the chance to just stop and be surrounded by this type of beauty.
The Dorrigo Rainforest is also peaceful thanks to its green colour that represent the « Neutrality » in occidental society. When you’re surrounded by nature, you feel free, appeased and relaxed… That’s a good feeling! This is a must do experience on the East Coast Australia tour packages.
Why is it called a rainforest? Firstly, because of the density of its nature, rich in biodiversity. Secondly, because it’s situated in a high annual rainfall area, making it a high humidity area.
And finally, we can tell it’s a rainforest due to the huge and tall trees that it houses. The biggest are called « Mother Trees » these trees help the surrounding trees to grow correctly and stay standing after a big storm. They are all connected, as a big family!
