Tasmania experiences four distinct seasons, each with its own charm. The warmest months are December through March, with autumn offering calm, sunny days. Winter runs from May to August, and the climate can vary widely due to Tasmania’s proximity to the Southern Ocean.

Summer temperatures range from 17 to 23°C, while winter highs are between 3 and 11°C. Rainfall is diverse: Hobart, with 626mm annually, is Australia’s second-driest capital, while the west coast receives up to 2400mm, sustaining its rainforests.

Weather can change suddenly, especially when bushwalking, so always carry extra warm and waterproof clothing. While 23°C in summer may not seem hot, the dry heat and strong sun make sunscreen and a hat essential.

Yes, there are things you cannot bring to Tasmania, due to it’s pretty amazing Island biodiversity!  Biosecurity risk material can include fruit and vegetables, seafood, some animal products, plant material, soil and seeds.

Check out the Tasmanian Government’s site:  the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Tasmania for more information

Tasmania is located approximately 250km across Bass Strait from the mainland. Most visitors fly in, but those wishing to enjoy the journey by sea can take the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, which operates between Geelong and Devonport.

Melbourne is the closest airport, while Hobart is your arriving airport on Tasmania.

Tasmanians take great pride in living on their island at the edge of the world. There’s a deep connection between the land, food, culture, and people, and locals are always eager to share their stories—and perhaps a few insider secrets too.
