Flashpacking Basics
What is the difference between backpacking and flashpacking?
Backpacking is typically a budget-conscious and spontaneous approach to travel, while flashpacking seeks a balance between adventure and comfort, often opting for more upscale accommodations and experiences without sacrificing exploration and cultural immersion.
Note: At Via Travel we only offer Boutique Comfort Tours or Flashpacker Adventure Tours so we can focus on delivering exceptional quality and authentic local experiences.
What is the average group size on flashpacker adventure tours?
Group sizes can vary, but our flashpacker tours typically maintain smaller groups to enhance the experience, allowing for more personalised attention from guides and fostering a sense of camaraderie among travellers.
We cap our group size at a maximum of 16 travellers, but typically our groups consist of around 12 adventurers. Most importantly, rest assured that all our departures are guaranteed, regardless of the group size.
Will there be a tour guide?
Yes, of course. Our trips are fully escorted by one of our friendly, knowledgeable tour leaders. They are incredible and many of our travellers tell us that they have made the trip truly special!
What is the age range for flashpacking?
Aimed towards youthful, active travellers in their 20’s-40’s we usually book 18-49 year olds on our flashpacker adventure tours.
Can under-18s come accompanied by an adult?
We cannot cater for children or young adults under 18 on our flashpacker adventure tours so they are unable to come, even if they are accompanied.
Are flashpacker adventure tours suitable for solo travellers?
Absolutely! Many flashpacker adventure tours welcome solo travellers, offering a supportive group environment where you can bond with like-minded individuals while embarking on exciting adventures together.
How do I pack for flashpacking trips?
When packing for flashpacking adventures, prioritise versatile and lightweight items that can adapt to various climates and activities. Utilise travel-sized essentials to maximise space in your backpack or suitcase.
What level of physical fitness is required for flashpacker adventure tours?
You can expect to be kept busy with plenty of included activities from snorkelling the great barrier reef to breathtaking adventure walks.
This means you’ll need to be active and used to a daily amount of activity and fitness. Some of the walks and excursions include hiking and skywalking in the treetops so they are not accessible for those with some disabilities.

Flashpacking Accommodation
What is the accommodation like on the tours?
At Via Travel we offer a range of different types of accommodation including hotels, eco-lodges, cabins and hostels. All of the accommodation is selected by us as part of the tour curation process.
How many people share in the accommodation dorm rooms?
They are triple-share rooms throughout except for some twins, but no more than 3 people in a room at any one time.
Are these rooms shared with non-Via Travel people?
No, only the travellers that are part of your group tour will share a room with you, so you’ll get to know everyone well.
Are they mixed-sex dorms? If so, how does that work for single girls travelling?
Yes, they are mixed-sex dorms. We endeavour to have same-sex dorms wherever possible, however, due to our diverse range of passengers we cannot guarantee this.
We will do our best to accommodate same-sex dorms whenever we can and if this is not possible we let travellers know before departure. If travellers are not happy with the mixed-sex room we can try to accommodate an alternative, for example, paying to upgrade to a single room, or cancelling/rebooking the trip.
Note: Cancelling free of charge is at Via Travel’s discretion and based on individual circumstances.
Are there single supplements and/or supplements for a double/twin room?
Single Supplements are available for some tours and are listed on our website. Supplements for a double/twin are applicable, however, passengers need to be travelling together to take advantage of this room type.
Flashpacking Travel & Activities
What transport do you use?
We use a range of different types of transport from private minibuses and planes to boats, local buses and beyond! It’s all part of the experience of your trip to enjoy local transport.
What types of activities are available on the tours?
We make sure you have a range of experiences from cultural, to dining, to adrenaline and beyond so you get the best out of your trip. You can find the specific itinerary for each tour by going onto its page, scrolling down and selecting each day of the trip.
Are activities included in the price of the tour?
Yes, excursions and activities are included in the price. You can find all of the inclusions on the page of each tour.
Are there any alternatives to paid activities?
We don’t offer alternatives to paid activities because of the logistics for the entire group. That said, we hand-select our activities, so you’re participating in all of the must-see and must-do excursions in each particular location.

Do the buses have USB power sockets and wifi?
No, unfortunately not at this stage, so you may want to look at packing a portable power bank or charger.
Flashpacker Booking Questions
Can you hold a space for a traveller while we decide and/or persuade friends?
Yes, we will hold a booking for 7 days!
How do you deal with allergies? Food Allergies?
Passengers will be asked during the booking/payment process and asked again at the welcome meeting about any allergies (food or otherwise) and dietary requirements. We can liaise with our suppliers to offer and facilitate alternatives wherever possible, however, due to some excursions this may not be guaranteed.
Note: It’s the sole responsibility of travellers who require an adrenaline pen or medication to carry these themselves.
