Australia Escorted Tours from Sydney
I may be a bit biased on this but the drive from Valla Beach to Dorrigo might be the most scenic even though I said that title belonged to Lakes Way…I guess it gets better day by day!
As the tour enters the Bellinger Valley, things get really green and lush as the bus winds its way through dairy farm country following the might of the Bellinger River to its headwaters upon the Dorrigo Plateau.
Take a moment to walk amongst the old town of Bellingen with the 1900 Hammond and Wheatley building or grab a coffee at my favourite place in town, Hyde Street Café.
Back on the bus for a short 25 minute drive, Waterfall Way has no equal with majestic driving through ancient Gondwana Land rainforests listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Keep an eye out for Newell Falls and Sherrard Falls that cascade from high above the road. You’ll know you’re in Dorrigo National Park when a slight chill fills the air and you’re ears pop!
Dorrigo sits 762 metres above sea level making it one of the highest towns in Australia! What makes Dorrigo so unique is its rich, fertile land where the famous Dorrigo spud “potato” is grown amongst the red soils that you stand upon.
Before you get too comfortable by the pool table at the Dorrigo Pub, why not go for a dip at Dangar Falls, a place that truly shows the might and majestic values of the Great Diving Range. Dangar Falls is just one of many stunning waterfalls that Dorrigo is blessed by as it is nestled amongst surrounding farmland in a few last remaining pockets of nature.
After spending a night at the historic Dorrigo Heritage Motel, built during the 1920’s it’s time to keep on keeping on!
